Name a Star Review and Giveaway! *Closed-Winners Announced!

Their description of the Name a Star service from them:
This product is a name a star service. You will receive a certificate with the persons name you have named the star after with it's co-ordinates. You will also receive instructions how to view the star with google earth, where the recipient of the gift will see a personalized message left by you. A great gift ideal for so many occasions including Birthdays, Xmas, Thanksgiving, Anniversaries, Valentines, Births, Christenings.

My take on it:
I was so excited when the opportunity to review and giveaway the Name a Star service came up. Something about giving a loved one their very own star appealed to my imagination and seemed terribly romantic.  Now I know there is a certain amount of hokeyness implied with such a gift and I DON'T CARE. I am tragically hokey and mushy ;-) I own it. I ROCK it. ;-)

Anyways, it is a silly amount of fun for what it costs-just $12.99. Now of course, I was provided my star naming for the purposes of this review. That said, I would TOTALLY pay $12.99 for it. No doubt. No second thoughts. I would be IN. Historically, I had always heard these services charge a whole lot more. That said, the last time I looked into it was the mid-nineties. Anyways, $12.99 is totally worth it for something personalized, mushy, and just sort of cool. (Can you tell that I enjoyed it? Ha!)

I gifted a star to my boyfriend as an early Valentine's Day gift. He really enjoyed it, but I think I overtook him in the enthusiasm department. (Side note: Who knew something like this would make me so giddy?)  Shortly after putting my request in, I received an electronic certificate with the coordinates of his star. You may be wondering, did I wait until it was at least February to give it to him? Nope. Within minutes of that thing hitting my mailbox, I dragged him to the computer to look up his star on Google Earth. EEP! He loved it! And what was even cooler, the message I wrote to him was in the notes that accompanied the star on the map. LOVE.

Bottom line? I am delighted to be able to give something such a wholehearted positive review after a string of hits and misses lately.  I think this would make a great gift for Valentine's Day, not only for your significant other, but anyone you love.  It is really simple, inexpensive, and pretty darn heartwarming.

The Name a Star people are giving me one naming opportunity for a giveaway! Woo-hoo! I am really grateful that I get to share the love so to speak. So fill out the form below to enter and tell me who the stars are in your life.

How to get your Beauty Blender REALLY clean and stain free!

Keeping my makeup brushes and tools REALLY clean is apparently REALLY important to me ;-)  I wash the brushes I have used during the week usually at the end of every week. Often, I pair this with a post-wash manicure or face mask while I clean so the process feels pampering.

Because of all I heard about the issues people had with staining and cleaning the Beauty Blender, I was really late to try it. I did not love the idea of using something that I could not be sure I could keep really clean. The idea just seemed gross. And they are much too costly to be considered readily disposable.

So I did quite a lot of hunting for solutions and...I FOUND ONE! Now to be clear, this is not in ANY WAY my innovation, but I tested it and found that it made my Beauty Blender stain free and looking like new. In fact, I doubt anyone could tell the difference between it and a new one. Seriously.

Enough beating around the bush, I only have one alteration from Ann's advice on Amazon
which is that I still rinse mine off before I let it dry completely to clean it. Other than that I did precisely as she said.

I figured out how to get the beauty blender completely clean! I've been doing this for about a month now, and it consistently cleans the blender perfectly. Instead of washing after use, I let it dry dirty and wash right before use. Put the cleaner on the sponge while it's dry, and rub it in with your hands. Then, under warm water, just splash a tiny bit of water on it, and work it in. Then, get it real nice and soaked and get all the soap out and all the color should come out and your sponge will look like new again!

SO many people have this problem with the Beauty Blender that I really wanted to share this because it really does work. Many, MANY thanks to Ann for sharing this!
