My take on it:
I only first used a brightener product in the last year.  It was one of those beauty products that did not seem self-explanatory.  Upon looking into it, I was curious about the claim that they help ffade those pesky reddish-brown spots that can linger after a pimple has healed.  I have very fair skin, and such spots (though I do not get many) take forever to fade. So I was game when the opportunity came up to try Ageless Derma's Brightener product, since I had had such a positive experience testing their concealer in the fall.

The packaging is sleek and sophisticated looking, and I was happy when I popped off the cap because it has one of those new disk dispensers.  If you have not had experience with one yet, you push down on the top of the container, and just a little bit of product is dispensed by way of an airless pump in the center of the disk. Besides being cool looking and sort of fun to play with, this kind of packaging does not waste product.

The brightener has a smooth consistency, almost a cross between a primer and a moisturizer. It is beige but blends into the skin and smells a bit like a traditional foundation, though the scent is faint, and disappears after you apply it.

Now to the heart of the matter, its effectiveness.  I used the product most days over a period of about three weeks.  I skipped a few days because I started to have a small breakout in that area and wanted to give my skin a rest.  I do not think the brightener was the cause of the breakout. Anyways, I can confirm that it does indeed speed along the fading of dark spots!  It takes a bit of time of course, but I was really pleased with its effectiveness.  I did not notice any other changes in my skin due to the product beyond the fading of dark spots.
Now, compared to pretty much all other beauty and skin care products, I do not have that much experience trying different brighteners, so my ability to compare, and get a real feel for value is hampered a bit.  A one ounce container costs about $52 dollars.  That said, I could see one container lasting you a very long time, since you do not need to use much. Is it worth that selling price? I am not sure.  I am convinced of its effectiveness, but that is a lot of money.  If the brightener were at the $25-$30 price point, it would be a no brainer for me. At around $50, I would probably experiment with less expensive brighteners first to see if I could get a similar effect at a lower cost.

I hope you all find this review to be helpful.  Please feel free to share your experience with brighteners in the comments.  It is new terrain for me, but this product has definitely sold me on the need for one :-)

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
